Reporting from Brookfield, WI
Normally, the drive to Milwaukee is pretty routine. However, with Mindy's family either in the midst of or having already moved away from the area, I doubt we will be making this drive very often going forward.
The normal routine would also include a stop at Martin's supermarket in Warsaw, IN, where they have an excellent salad bar. But with Cheetolini eviscerating the food inspection process, eating lettuce is problematic. Instead, we stopped a bit earlier, at a uniquely named barbecue joint in Ft. Wayne. Mindy had street tacos, while I had the burnt end sammich. It was okay—not sure if we would return.
Driving through Chicago is always an adventure. I can't handle it, but fortunately Mindy can. At some point, you have to make the call--drive through or around Chicago? She made the call for the former, and due to it being Sunday afternoon, it wasn't too bad.
Checked in at the hotel in Milwaukee, then went to Kopp's for their huge burgers (grab a knife to share) and their incredible frozen custard.
Then it was off to Woodman's, the local supermarket chain. It's a huge place--they seem to carry absolutely everything at decent prices. The pizza and cheese sections are enormous.
Ok, enough for now. Tomorrow, we begin the tour in earnest.
