We set out around 9:30, with a slight detour to help Mom with a task.  We drove thru on and off rain to Columbia City and a drive-in with the best pork tenderloin.  The homemade chips aren’t bad either.

On to Valparaiso and two Roadside America items--a giant cow and Orville Redenbacher.  We’ve never been to the downtown area, and it’s quite nice.  Good to see a vintage downtown area getting a glam-up.

We then turned north, arriving at the Indiana Dunes National Park.  It's very picturesque, as long as you don't look in the wrong direction to view the steel mill next door.  We walked down a pier with many fisherman, none of which seemed to be having much luck (although one said somebody caught a salmon).

We checked in at Al & Sally’s Motor Lodge, which is basically in the park.  The room was described as “adorable”, but I would say “sparse”.  It was clean, quiet, and included electric car charging (but the vendor went bankrupt--oh well).

Dinner in Michigan City--Holly’s Pub.  A “pub” in name only, more like a generic family restaurant, with the exception of a popcorn bowl at the table.  We weren’t all that hungry, so we had appetizers--fried green beans and potato skins.  It was okay.

Tomorrow--we finish off the Indiana Dunes and begin the Lake tour in earnest.
